Explore your options.
Start with a conversation.
Considering less reliance on glasses or contact lenses? Speak with the EyeHub team about LASIK, SMILE Pro, PRESBYOND and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).
Arrange an initial phone assessment
Initial telephone assessment: no charge.
A phone assessment is a first step. An eye examination is needed to establish surgical suitability.
A CLINICAL DECISION, MADE TOGETHER
Several options. One assessment process.
LASIK
Discuss laser vision correction and whether this approach fits your prescription and examination findings.
SMILE Pro
Ask the team about SMILE Pro, the assessment process and how treatment options are compared.
PRESBYOND
Discuss near- and distance-vision goals, including options for age-related changes in near focus.
Refractive Lens Exchange
For some people unsuitable for laser treatment, replacing the natural lens with an artificial lens offers another way to reduce reliance on glasses.
Read more about RLE
Being unsuitable for laser vision correction does not always rule out other treatment options. For selected patients, Refractive Lens Exchange offers a different approach: the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens chosen to suit your eye measurements and visual goals.
RLE uses the same established surgical approach as modern cataract surgery, but aims to reduce reliance on glasses rather than treat a cloudy lens. Your eye health, age and prescription help determine whether RLE is appropriate.
Some people still need glasses after RLE. Lens choices involve trade-offs, including glare or halos. Surgery carries risks, including infection, retinal detachment and loss of vision. Dr Moorthy will discuss your personal risks, expected benefits and alternatives before you decide.
Estimated RLE cost: $11,000–$11,500 AUD for both eyes, before any eligible rebates. This includes the $350 initial consultation, $7,000 procedure fee ($3,500 per eye), approximately $3,000–$3,500 in hospital fees and approximately $650 in anaesthetic fees. All procedures include 12 months of aftercare. Your written quote will confirm final charges.
Are Medicare rebates available?
A Medicare rebate may apply to an eligible specialist consultation with a valid referral. Eligibility depends on the service and applicable Medicare requirements.
RLE performed solely to correct refractive error is generally not covered by Medicare. Cataract surgery and limited other qualifying circumstances have different eligibility rules. A referral alone does not make RLE surgery eligible.
Ask EyeHub to check your clinical circumstances and applicable item numbers, and confirm any rebates before booking. No rebate has been deducted from the estimate above.

Understand the next step.
-
Initial telephone assessment
No charge. Discuss your goals, questions and next steps with the EyeHub team.
-
In-person assessment

-
Your decision
Review the recommendation, personal risks, alternatives, recovery arrangements and written fees before deciding.
What does the procedure fee include?
All procedures include 12 months of aftercare. Your written quote will set out the procedure and any other inclusions. The RLE estimate above includes its $350 initial consultation. For laser procedures, the $100 booking deposit is credited toward surgery if you proceed.
What if I am researching costs?
You are welcome to discuss costs before deciding whether to book further assessments. Ask about current payment arrangements and the full terms. No financing terms are assumed on this page.
Does the phone call establish suitability?
No. The phone call helps the team understand your enquiry. Clinical examination and diagnostic testing are needed before a recommendation.
