ZEISS PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision
ZEISS PRESBYOND® laser blended vision (for presbyopia)
As we age, presbyopia, a gradual loss of near focus, can make reading glasses or bifocals a necessity. At EyeHub, we offer PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision, a laser treatment for presbyopia that may reduce your reliance on reading glasses.
How ZEISS PRESBYOND® works
Presbyopia typically begins in the early 40s as the eye’s natural lens becomes less flexible, making it harder to focus on nearby objects. Symptoms include difficulty reading small print and eye strain.
PRESBYOND® uses the precision of the ZEISS MEL 90 to customise your corneal shape, enhancing depth of field. The process blends your eyes’ visual zones, designed to reduce reliance on reading glasses.
One eye is optimised for near vision. The other eye is optimised for distance vision. With time, the brain learns to combine the two views into a single, blended image. View the ZEISS PRESBYOND® patient brochure for more information.

Understanding Presbyopia
From around the age of 45, many people notice their near vision starting to blur. This age-related change, known as presbyopia, happens when the natural lens of the eye loses flexibility, making it harder to focus on close objects. Reading glasses or multifocals are the most common solution. PRESBYOND® is a laser option that may reduce your reliance on reading glasses, although near vision can keep changing as the eye ages.
How PRESBYOND® Works
PRESBYOND® was invented by Professor Dan Reinstein and is built into ZEISS laser software. It reshapes the cornea using the ZEISS MEL 90 excimer laser. At EyeHub it is performed by Dr Sonia Moorthy, who trained under Professor Reinstein. Standard LASIK is usually set for distance. PRESBYOND® also widens each eye’s range of focus, which is designed to help across near, intermediate and far distances.
It’s designed to help with everyday tasks such as reading a phone screen or working on a computer, and may reduce your reliance on reading glasses. Some people still use glasses for fine print, in dim light or for long periods of reading.
Why PRESBYOND® is Different
-
Customised to you: Treatment is tailored to your eyes and prescription.
-
Blended vision: Designed to reduce your need for reading glasses.
What are the Benefits of PRESBYOND®?
Less Reliance on Reading Glasses
PRESBYOND® may reduce your reliance on reading glasses or multifocals for everyday tasks such as checking your phone, working on a computer or reading a book. Some people still use reading glasses for fine print, in dim light or for long periods of reading.
Near, Intermediate and Distance Vision
Traditional laser procedures focus mainly on distance vision. PRESBYOND® is designed to extend your depth of focus, for smoother transitions between near, intermediate and far distances.
Where Near Vision Matters
Near vision plays a part in work, leisure, sport and everyday comfort.
Work & Study
Screens, documents and close work, with less switching between glasses.
Leisure & Travel
Maps, menus and your phone, with less reaching for readers.
Sports & Outdoors
Hobbies like golf, hiking or gardening, where you switch between near and far.
Confidence & Comfort
You may find you reach for glasses less often through the day.
How the Blend Zone Works
A Smarter Way to See Clearly
Most laser procedures reshape the cornea to correct distance vision, but they don’t address age-related near vision changes. PRESBYOND® works differently by creating a “blend zone” on the cornea.
This blend zone slightly increases the natural depth of focus, allowing your eyes to smoothly transition between near, intermediate, and distance vision. Instead of one sharp point of focus, or splitting your vision into near and far “zones” like multifocal lenses do, you gain a range of clear vision, which feels more natural in everyday life whether you’re reading a book, using a computer, or driving.
Blended vision is designed to be easier to adapt to than monovision. Adapting takes time and not everyone adapts, so your suitability is assessed before any treatment.

Is PRESBYOND® Right for You?
PRESBYOND® is designed specifically for adults who are beginning to notice age-related changes in their vision. If you find yourself reaching for reading glasses more often, or struggling with tasks like reading your phone, computer, or a restaurant menu, this treatment may suit you.
You May Be a Candidate If You:
-
Are over 40 years of age and experiencing blurred near vision.
-
Are tired of relying on reading glasses or multifocals.
-
Have otherwise healthy eyes, free from conditions like cataracts or advanced glaucoma.
-
Have a stable prescription that hasn’t changed significantly in the past year.
-
Would like to reduce your reliance on glasses or contacts for daily activities.
Because every patient’s eyes are unique, a comprehensive eye assessment is the only way to confirm if PRESBYOND® is suitable for you. We use ZEISS diagnostic tools to plan your treatment around your eyes and your vision needs. All surgery carries risks, and Dr Moorthy will discuss them with you before you decide.

PRESBYOND® is a laser treatment for presbyopia. Like traditional monovision LASIK, it sets one eye mainly for distance and the other a little for near. With PRESBYOND®, the difference between the eyes is smaller, and the laser profile widens each eye’s range of focus so the two eyes overlap in the middle distances. It is designed to be easier to adapt to than monovision.
It leverages advanced algorithms and the precision of the ZEISS MEL 90 laser for a highly personalised treatment tailored to your unique eye measurements. You are likely a candidate for PRESBYOND® if:
- You are over 40 and experiencing presbyopia (difficulty focusing on near objects).
- You would like to reduce your reliance on reading glasses or bifocals.
- You have no significant eye conditions such as cataracts or uncontrolled dry eye.
A detailed consultation and assessment will confirm your eligibility.
Adapting takes time. Many people settle in over several weeks, and published studies suggest adjustment can continue for up to a year.
The brain naturally learns to combine the visual input from both eyes into a single, clear image.
While you adapt, your eyes may feel slightly unbalanced. Not everyone adapts to a difference between the eyes, so Dr Moorthy will talk this through with you before treatment. What does PRESBYOND® offer?PRESBYOND® offers several advantages:
- More than presbyopia: it can also treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism, for suitable prescriptions.
- Planned for your eyes: each treatment is planned around your eyes’ measurements.
- Recovery: Dr Moorthy will advise when you can return to work, driving and exercise. Dry, gritty eyes and glare or halos at night are common early on and usually settle over a few months.
- Future-proof technology: powered by ZEISS’ advanced laser systems, PRESBYOND® represents the cutting edge of presbyopia correction.
