Meet Dr Sonia Moorthy
MBChB, MPH, FRANZCO
Dr Sonia Moorthy is a Cataract & Laser Vision specialist. Her work centers on precision refractive outcomes, Customized Laser Vision surgery, as well as General Ophthalmology, where she focuses on patient-centric, evidence based outcomes, using the latest in advanced diagnostics and surgical techniques to deliver premium vision services to her patients, and bring world-class care to the Sunshine Coast and Regional Queensland
Professional education
Dr Moorthy completed her specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).
After completing two international fellowships in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Singapore National Eye Centre and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, she returned to Australia. She practised general ophthalmology for several years in Far North Queensland and on the Sunshine Coast. Dr Moorthy then decided that her passion lay in refractive surgery and undertook advanced refractive training with leading global experts in the field.

Previously, she completed her medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Dundee, Scotland, followed by a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne.
Commitment to Innovation
Dr Moorthy leads the laser vision correction services at EyeHub and was responsible for introducing the first ZEISS VisuMax 800 Femtosecond laser platform in Queensland.
This platform supports the latest-generation laser vision correction procedures, such as PRESBYOND®, the world’s leading treatment for presbyopia, and SMILE PRO®, the fastest treatment available for myopia, hyperopia, and Astigmatism, raising the standard for innovation, safety, comfort, and visual outcomes.
Dr Moorthy is committed to education, clinical governance, and innovation in ophthalmology.
